April 2025 Geopolitical Round Up: Tariffs, Tesla & the "Global Green Outcry"
Former WTO Director: the U.S. has gone completely overboard on tariffs. The one man who could have changed policy and cleaned house instead became another arrogant global dictator who ultimately used his influence for nothing.
The media are kept at arm’s length. Current WTO Chief Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has barely made a public appearance and hasn’t granted an interview in weeks. (link – use the translate button)
Is ANTIFA a threat or an inconvenience? Common sense might label it a terrorist group, yet it's tolerated under the First Amendment. Why aren’t we investigating its funding sources? Could it be just another elitist tool—like lawfare—to push an agenda? Here's a thought-provoking video on anti-fascism. Ironically, they may be as close to fascism as they are to opposing it. See also: Tolerance of the Intolerant , a reflection on democratic discourse.
Every 48 hours brings another ceasefire proposal , yet Israel continues targeting Hamas operatives individually. At this pace, the war seems endless—especially with the EU now considering arming the Palestinian population, similar to their unwillingness to stop European arms for Ukraine.
The European Union is planning a new multi-billion-euro aid package for the Palestinian Authority—hoping it can take control after the war in Gaza concludes.
Anne Applebaum , a self-anointed prophet—or perhaps just a bored elitist—hasn’t handled her waning relevance well. With the Biden administration’s Ukraine hype fading, she's become a mouthpiece for the EU. For example, see Politico's commentary on Orban , one of Europe’s so-called “right-wing lunatics.”
European Democrats often show little regard for political diversity. In Austria, Germany, and France, coalition politics and legal tactics have sidelined opposition parties, even those with voter support exceeding 20%. These right-wing parties are seen as a threat by Brussels elites. Signs of fractures in the one-party narrative are emerging, pressuring center-right factions to close ranks. In Germany, the black–red coalition will likely balance less migration, greener policies, and expanded welfare— all funded by a massive spending bill. And in France , the legal system— not the people —will determine who governs. France might need some Jacobins back —minus the guillotines.
Is there a link between popularity and approval ratings? Compare populist trends with approval ratings —right-wing parties are surging. No further commentary needed. Pew’s findings reveal the populist currents in Europe. It could all coalesce into a Trump-style movement.
Trump’s World offers an interesting read—and hints at a possible global realignment. The roots of Trump’s foreign policy lie in 1950s anticommunism. But unlike the liberal anticommunism of Truman, Eisenhower, and JFK—who promoted democracy and internationalism—Trump’s worldview reflects right-wing anticommunist movements. These drew on religious imagery, distrusted American liberalism, and saw it as too weak and secular to defend the nation.
Globally, there’s a backlash against Tesla —possibly because Musk is seen as the architect of DOGE savings? It seems counterproductive to sell your Tesla in protest of democracy unless you believe government spending should be managed solely by entrenched interests. John Gotti tried that in New York and nearly succeeded. Maybe the Antifa Tesla burners are just covering for Chuck Schumer?
Still, there’s a long way to go to catch Tesla. Despite its U.S. EV market share dropping from 51% to 44% in the past year, Tesla remains the dominant player by a wide margin.
