China’s Global Governance, Brazil’s Reckoning, and the Future of Western Power
China's Global Governance Push: Ever heard of the Global Governance Initiative ? It sounds like a WEF concept, but it is actually a Chinese initiative. When Maduro thinks it is a great initiative, perhaps it's a hegemon in the making?
The Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" Meeting in Tianjin on Sept 1 has won quick support from world leaders and has been hailed by experts as a key Chinese contribution to fairer global governance amid geopolitical shifts.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro told reporters on Sept 1 that he would sign an official document to join the initiative.
Brazil's Political Crackdown: Brazil's leftist government has put Bolsonaro behind bars for a whopping 27 years for a January 6-like coup. However, he tried it with the military at his side but failed. But remember, had Kamala won, you bet Trump would be in jail and many more Jan 6 protesters would be too. Bolsonaro tried to cling to office after losing his 2022 reelection bid. He sought to undermine public trust in the electoral system and developed a detailed strategy to stay in power. Prosecutors argued that his plot included plans to assassinate the election's victor, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro supporters also violently stormed government buildings in Brasília on Jan. 8, 2023.
Netanyahu's War Strategy: Netanyahu's politics of war—but what is the strategy? Yes, we know, eliminating Hamas, but where are they all hiding, and did we not cut off all the funding? It is probably an impossible task, but as long as their hostages remain from the October 7 attack, killing Hamas and Palestinians will continue, but hopefully the Arab countries are okay with that. Perhaps hate is on both sides. School curricula are among the most powerful instruments for shaping collective consciousness. They do more than transmit information; they help instill values and attitudes that determine how students perceive themselves and others. In Israel, a wealth of studies has shown that textbooks have played a direct role in constructing a negative image of Arabs and Muslims , repeatedly portraying them as eternal enemies and existential threats with whom coexistence is impossible.
And here a critical Jewish view —perhaps classical US war monger mentality? Everything in life has two sides. But today I am not interested in categorizing whether Israel's actions should be classified as genocide or ethnic cleansing. More interesting is how and why Israel transformed from a country in the 1960s and 1970s with a mildly left Labor Party-led government to a country ruled by a coalition of far-right extremists and ultra-nationalists.
The leaders of major American Jewish organizations want to uncritically defend Israel and pretend everything is the same as it was 50 years ago, but it clearly is not. They indulge in willful blindness.
The US-China Technology Battle: Fight of the century: "Social engineers treat society like a mathematical formula." Are America and China heading for a conflict? Technology researcher Dan Wang provides an inspiring analysis of the superpowers. It is a duel between Asian engineers and Western lawyers, from which everyone could benefit in the end. Here's an interesting view (you may need to hit the translate button). And Kim Jong Un—is he already preparing his successor?
European Political Crisis: The European leftist regimes are keeping power not with the people, but with political maneuvering, eliminating dialogue in favor of party oppression. Call Ms. Le Pen and the AFD in Germany fascist parties, as the liberal press does (see Meloni), but with approval ratings at the 20% level, it becomes increasingly clear that the day of reckoning is coming. The EU, with the war in Ukraine, may stretch its authoritarian regime and crumble altogether? More here next time.
